Could he really be....8?

Yes, he can be. I can't believe it; it's like I'm entering a whole new parenting life and I surely don't feel old enough to have an 8 year old. A friend of mine said it best..."It's really strange when your child turns an age you vividly remember." I feel the same way, a little incredulous, a little nostalgic, a little proud, and a lot excited for the years to come. He's an amazing boy.

On Friday he had his traditional breakfast with dad and a trip to Target for one present. For his party this year (the day before his birthday), he invited 3 friends (only 2 could come), plus his brothers and we had a pizza lunch and cake then took the crew glow in the dark golfing. Made me wonder why in the world I've always done home parties...it was easy, not too pricey and we all had a great time, me included...no decor, no stress, no clean up and gift bags were 2 king size candy bars of their choice, awesome all around. My kind of party.

James, Shaun Weber, Jace, Josh Dowdle, Parker
Jace chose an ice cream cake
The crew who all apparently only get 2s when they miniature golf. After 10 holes of trying to keep score, I decided to put the pencil down.
We played a little air hockey

And a little ping pong...hilarious to watch kids play ping pong

The next morning he awoke to a decorated room, monkey bread before church, presents from his family, and egg burritos (his choice) for dinner. We had a great time celebrating him and boy did he have a great time being the star of the show. No one likes the spotlight quite like Jace!
His brothers couldn't wait to give him their gifts
I'm not sure Parker or James could have a better big brother than Jace. He's just who you hope your older brother will be. He was super excited about every gift, but more than that, Jace treats Parker and James like they are his best buddies. He never asks for them to leave or not play when he has friends over. He is always kind and helpful to them. He takes care of them when they are sick or hurt and helps them read or do homework. Really, thinking about the way he treats them, makes my heart burst. It's amazing.  So glad he is their older brother. You can feel the love between my boys.
We both love Jace so much and are so proud of him. He's a great 8 year old!

What a cute boy! I didn't realize our oldest were so close in age. I like the party idea. I'll have to convince one of the kids to do that!

What a special year this is. Friendly reminder....bring tons of tissues to his baptism! If you are like me, you will cry with happiness and wonder how 8 years creeps up on you. Great party, and the best picture ever is Jace opening his gifts with his brother's and the happiness that is exploding on his face! What a doll!!

Jace is cool. Super cool. Dru turns 8 next week. I want to cut and paste your post on my blog. We both got lucky with awesome "first" kids.
I agree....crazy we have kids that old!
P.s. you look great. Love your hair.

What? NO WAY! I can't believe he's eight! When does he get baptized? Also, I think I'll agree with you about having b-day parties somewhere else! I always try to have them at home to save money and to do super cute things. But the kids don't appreciate all the time and work you put in, and who can compete with glow-in-the-dark golf?!
