The other night we were doing dishes and Jace came into the kitchen and said,
"Hey mom and dad? I decided I don't really want to be called JJ anymore. Can you just call me Jace? I mean it's okay if every once in awhile you want to call me JJ or Jacemeister, or Jacer, but I really like my normal name better. Is that okay?
Mike and I looked at each other over the dishes like only 2 parents can, with faces full of love and amusement that someone who used to be so tiny and needy is now old enough to decide important things and tell us what name they want to be called. We smiled, and said, "Sure, Jace, we'll do our best."
Jace was the hardest baby (the kind that cried most of the day), not an easy toddler (the kind you have to follow around to make sure he doesn't hit, bite or hurt someone, the kind the takes every ounce of energy you have the entire day). Through every stage, hardness aside, he dazzled me. He was my first and I lived in constant wonder that something I helped create could be so full of personality, will and life. Now he is 71/2 and an absolute joy. Such a good, good boy.
People say it all the time, but it's true. They grow up so fast, so you have to love every minute of them because you can never "go back" or get a "do over." Today, I'm just grateful for my 3...
*on another note, my "layout" tab has completely disappeared from my blogger account. It's driving me crazy. I can't add or update my blogroll or change my format or anything. Any suggestions?*

I love those funny moments when our kids say something that makes you giggle late at night just thinking about it. (does that make sense?)

No help on the blog stuff...sorry. The name thing is a funny kid. Each of my kids have had something to say about it. I love it. Most kids we do just what they want, only harrison didn't get his way when he wanted to start going by Harry. I couldn't do that.
I miss that kiddo, especially on Fast Sunday!!!
I didn't realize Jace was a hard baby.. why haven't you given me any tips on Tagg????
Jace could have told you guys to call him Batman.. that's how things roll around here in our house!
Hope you're having fun in Michigan.. Brig really misses James & is mad that you guys moved-ed away. He'd love to talk to him sometime.
I can't believe he is only a few months away from getting baptized... holy cow. I remember when my littlest brother wanted to only be called Brady, not Braids, Bubba, Bubbs, Tough Guy, etc. It was so sad! I still catch myself using nicknames every now and then!
LOL!! I love it! What a cute boy!
So sad when they grow up!
