Fish Lake

We have very few free weekends this summer, so we decided to take advantage of one of them and head to Fish Lake. It was so much fun to take my boys to a place I remember loving so much as a kid. Our vacations are a little different than the ones I grew up taking, so it was fun to kind of mix the two. A little relaxation and a lot of GO! It's the way we roll with 4 boys.

I remember loving those crazy spiral stairs just like Pierce did!

The boys LOVED exploring the woods...we knew they would!

They found lots of cool treasures like this dead mouse they tried to use for bait and lots of bones from dead animals licked clean. Gross, but so cool for them.

The views were just as pretty as I remembered them.

The boys decided that if we were in Fish Lake, we had to try fishing. We spent quite awhile getting 3 poles prepped...

They gave it a good shot, but we ended up without anything in our nets ;(. Not surprising!

We decided to venture out and take a 4 mile hike that started just down the road. It was pretty incredible to be the ONLY people that you could see in a big open field and up through the mountains. Pretty spectacular. What wasn't spectacular was the fact that Pierce fell asleep and Mike had to carry his dead weight, the hike ended up being WAY too long for our hot bodies and hungry tummies, and James was being eaten by mosquitoes. We turned around before we made it to the twin lakes, but next time we will be prepared. Crossing the bridge and watching a snake eat a fish whole made up for it all though...have to get those photos from Mike. The boys were entranced!

That evening we had a delicious dinner (food always tastes better at the cabin), ate too many s'mores, soda and candy, played card games and watched a little soccer and part of a movie before we all passed out. Such a great day!

The next morning we woke up, ate breakfast and cleaned the cabin before heading out to Captiol Reef National Park. It was amazing!! I cannot believe we have never been there before. We stopped at the visitors center, took an amazing hike up a mountain and through slot canyons, drove the scenic drive, tried another hike but the boys had hiked enough (and the gnats were killing us all), and headed out for burgers and shakes before the drive home.

It was a quick vacation but a fantastic one. We indulged, laughed, chatted, relaxed, worked, hiked, ate and marveled at the beauties around us. It was a perfect summer weekend!

That looks a perfect vacation for your boys! :)
We could do all that except for the dead mouse and the snake. Fun memories.
