After the regular baseball season, Jace was selected to be part of the All Star team. He was beyond excited...until we found out that every tournament we would play in would be on Saturday and Sunday, which is a problem since we decided, as a family, that we would do our best to keep Sunday a holy day, a tough commandment to keep in Michigan since all of our boys love sports and many of them are played on Sundays.
So, Jace was elated when he found out he made the team, then devastated when he found out he may not be able to play but he knew that playing on Sunday would not be okay with him. We talked to the coach and he told us he would get back to us. I was so hoping that it would end up like a story in the Friend or New Era, where you make a good choice and everything still works out, but I had to prepare Jace because there was a good chance that it might not work out for him and we would have to say no to all stars.
There were 2 L-O-N-G days before we found out the team still wanted him, even if it was for Saturdays only! So, we spent the next 6 weeks playing all-stars! I come from a major baseball family, so when my mom found out he made the team, she hopped on a plane to make it to the first tournament. Jace was very honored and I was super lucky since it fell on our move weekend and she came before and after to help!
As another side note: one of the friends Jace had made in Utah also plays baseball and when my mom told him that Jace was waiting to see if he would be able to play on the all-star team because of the Sunday play, his family prayed for Jace that he would be able to have that fun experience too without playing on Sundays. How wonderful that they thought of him and prayed as a family for him. Such a great example of thoughtfulness and serving those who are far away or not even very close to us through our prayers.
The all-star season was a good learning experience as their team played some very serious ball clubs and learned a lot. We had a good time and loved being out on the field during the summer. How cute is he in his uniform??
We also spent lots of our down time taking pictures of the cutest 9 month old ever! Enjoy a few of my favorite Pierce faces!

I love those pictures of Jace pitching. Way to go! So glad he got the opportunity! And love, love, the pictures of that adorable baby!
jace looks SO MUCH LIKE YOU! you are seriously the best mom, brooke. all your stories are fantastic. mostly because they're great, but they don't seem outlandishly hard to accomplish. you are a good example of "by small and simple things shall great things come to pass." i'm sure if you hadn't prepared jace ahead of time for such a decision, then it may have been a more difficult one for him to make.
that is so cool!! Good for him! I LOVE the black and white photos!!! did you take them?
So glad he got to play! It's so nice when things work out they way you want :) And Pierce is so cute--those two bottom teeth when he smiles are way cute!
