Family Fun Day!

My kids are finally getting old enough to realize what a boring holiday celebrator I am--I've gotten away with it for the last 4 years by taking my kids on walks and pointing out all the "scary houses," but Jace isn't falling for the vicarious celebration this year. So, after he'd pointed out our lack of Halloween spirit, we decided to have a Halloween night on Friday, which didn't work out too well since my kids go to bed at 7:30, so without any soccer games or other commitments this week, Saturday was officially dubbed, "Family Fun Day."

We adorned pumpkins with these great Mr. Potato Head-like pumpkin decorations my mom sent to us, made ghosts to hang on our trees out of tootsie pops and tissue paper, and played really bad spooks as we took plates of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies to unsuspecting neighbors and claimed we were the Boo! ghosts. It's one of our favorite traditions, and there is nothing cuter than watching a 2 and 4 year old doorbell ditch. If you don't do it in your neighborhood, you should start it. http://www.theborkowskis.com/halloween/halloweenbooing.pdf We decided we don't have nearly enough Saturdays like this, and we loved every minute!

Brooke, this is such a cute idea. I think I am going to have to 'borrow' this idea from you & do it in our neighborhood. What a fun Saturday it sounds like you guys had! It sounds & looks like the boys loved it. You are such a cute mom!

We have a similar cookie thing among our friends here, but prior to living here, I'd never seen it before. I love it! It's so fun. We just got "Spooked!" as they call it here, so we need to make our cookies. Those pumpkin decorations are so cool! I love the idea of a mess-free jack-o-lantern. Where did your mom find them?

I love the Halloween doorbell ditch--there's certainly not enough sweets going on this time of year! We got 2 last night, because we hadn't had time to put up our ghost in the window. My kids were in complete heaven.

You are such a good mom! We also made cookies for neighbors this weekend, but Josh forgot to run on one of them, it was kinda funny. I love the pumpkins!

Good work Mommy. You finally succumbed. Do you realize that every year now has to be just as fun or funner? And pretty soon they'll realize that there are other holidays you should be having family fun days for as well. Good thing it actually is fun. Ask your Mom where she got those great pumpkin faces, and e-mail me with it. I would love to do that this weekend. I am officially impressed that you made tootsie pop ghosts. Do you realize that that borders on craftiness?
