Birthday Time!

I love to celebrate my kids' birthdays. I am not crafty or cute, but I do like to make them feel special. This happens in a few ways...

1. I decorate their room the night before. It's easy, with a pack of blown up balloons and some streamers. It's not much work, but it makes them feel special in the morning.

2. I make a little sign that says, "10 (or whatever number they are turning) Reasons we love Jace!" I always try and think of personal, kind and important things to say. Some of Jace's were: "He has big dreams" "He is kind to everyone, especially those who need a friend" "He is a super fun brother" "He is a great reader" "He is learning how to be a good worker" etc.

3. Mike takes the kids out to breakfast, just the two of them. This usually happens early in the morning on their very birthday. This year it had to be Saturday. The boys love it.

4. I bring fast food into school and eat with them and their friends. They think it is so awesome to get McDonalds...we literally almost never go there, and they love having Pierce and I join them (at least for now). Plus, I get to meet their friends and see who they eat with. It's a win/win.

This year for Jace's birthday he got what he wanted most...a SNOW DAY! So, he played in the snow all morning with our neighborhood friends, then came into his favorite lunch. He was king for the day, so he didn't have to do any work or chores and got to spend the afternoon playing video games and watching TV. That night he had basketball practice (a favorite) and we ate homemade pizza and watched American Idol. All his choice.

Lunch at school the day after his birthday...much more fun to eat fast food on a school day than on a snow day. Then your friends can think you are so lucky!

On Friday, we had 12,10 year old boys join us at the bowling alley for quite the party. It was crazy, but so much fun. Jace loved being surrounded by good friends, his family, and pizza. He requested brownies and Rice Krispie treats for dessert (yeah! So easy for me!) and everyone ate them up. It was such a great time!

I hate making gift bags, so I bought large candy bars and handed them out. The boys were in heaven.

Happy Birthday to my oldest guy. Love him to pieces.
