I love that Gilbert is such a small town in a big city.
I love that they give the kids Veteran's Day off school.
I love that there is a fun little parade in Mesa where we get to celebrate Veterans and our current soldiers.
I love that I have friends who want to go.
I love talking to my kids about sacrifice.
I really love that they are starting to understand.

Yeah, talking to your kids about sacrifice is good ... until every time your kid sees a soldier they shout, "There's a soldier!" To which the soldier always smiles. Then you find yourself making a beeline for anywhere far far from the soldier because you know the next words out of her mouth will always be, "They kill people." And you're sure if they hear, they likely won't smile anymore.
Somewhere in the talk about sacrifice and soldiers, the message was a little lost. Yes, they sometimes have to kill people, but it's not really what you shout in the shoe aisle at Target, or worse still in the thrift store that's ON the local Army base! Please tell me if you have any tips for reworking a child's perspective on soldiers!!!
We love Vetern's day too! The day has changed for our family now that we have a "soldier" in the family.
We understand their sacrifice just a little bit better!
Thanks for letting us go along with you guys - and for remembering your camera, since I can't ever seem to remember it on these fun occasions.
