A Lazy Labor Day

We decided that we just couldn't have a 3 day weekend and spend it in 106 degree weather--isn't it supposed to be cooling down now??

So, we went to a place where the weather is always perfect and company always divine. We headed to Mike's parents' house in San Diego. When we go, we are usually busy, busy, but last weekend we just lounged and it felt great. Not to mention, it was the perfect excuse to start Breaking Dawn (which I give 3 stars to, worth the read, but not fabulous).

We got in late Friday night and were up at the crack of dawn Saturday morning with kids who don't understand that your are supposed to SLEEP IN on vacation (and I'm just asking for 7 am). Mike and I took a jog and then went swimming in his parents' pool while we waited for Chris, Cassy, Shaina and Chaz to show up. They FINALLY arrived (Jace asked every 10 minutes from 5:45 am when Chaz would be there) and the cousin time began. We hardly even saw Jace, Chaz, and Shaina, they were so busy chasing chicken, running around, jumping on the tramp and swimming.
Parker became pretty attached to his beautiful cousin Shaina. She took great care of him and on the way home, he told us he would miss her a lot.

Saturday night we got babysitters (wahoo!) so we could celebrate my birthday. We went to a yummy spot on Coronado island where the view was a delicious as the food. The Romneys always have great spots to try, so dinner out is always a treat.

Sunday was church, naps, dinner...the usual, except for Marci used her first fresh eggs from the crazy chickens they adopted. It was a very exciting moment to witness.

Monday we ate a gigantic breakfast and went to the beach, where the kids were crazy enough to play in the freezing water. Jace and Chaz body surfed, Parker sat terrified as far as he could from the ocean, and James thought his kickboard was a surf board and tried a little surfing in the shallow water.

I have a love/hate relationship with the beach. Love it when I'm there, hate the sand when we are done, but it was a great time. The best part was just chatting with Chris, Cassy, Rick and Marci. We always have so many interesting things to talk about.

But, the MOST exciting thing was that while we were there, we had a new addition to the family!
Jenni and Jed had baby Alexis Ann on Sunday night. She is so beautiful and Jenni is a trooper. We are so happy she came here safely and can't wait to see that beautiful baby!

I have the same feelings about the beach. I love to watch the waves but I HATE the sand. Plus the water is always freezing. It looks like you guys had a ton of fun though!

I was dying when Mike told me his parents had chickens. I was like "What?? You can have chickens in RSF?" Who knew!!

She is so tiny and such a little doll. Looks like you guys had a fun labor day. Hard to believe we were on opposite sides of the country at the beach, weird huh?

That is fun that his family lives close enough you can just drive up to see them... Your boys are adorable-- it is crazy cause you can see both Mike and you in them. (I think Tiff and Kirk's kids look just like Tiff and Kirk)

I LOVE that your in-laws have chickens! I have long wanted my own chickens for eggs (I even want my own goat for goat's milk). Weird, I know, but I'm lovin' that picture of her in the apron with the basket of eggs! That picture with the long straws at the restaurant is pretty sweet too.

I love your hair at the length it's at! And seriously, I don't know if I've ever seen anyone rock red hair as beautifully as your MIL, SIL, and niece do! They're beautiful!

Breaking dawn 3 stars!? SOOO sad. My fav one of the series by far. I am a HAPPY ending type of person though! So, i don't like fighting or suspense. i am kinda cheesy! so i loved it!

I could not agree more with you about the beach, but even saying that I would love to be able to go to the beach once a week, I love Utah but I am dreading winter!

Hey, who is that girl next to you in the picture of you guys eating dinner with the fun long straws? Is last name Pugh? She look EXACTLY like someone I know. If that is not her last name. . .she has a long lost twin!

You have had a great summer. How is school going for Jace? Dru LOVES kindergarten.
