You Smell Like a Monkey

Is there anything more fun than the humor of a 4 year old? Any word that should be used in the bathroom is deliriously funny to Jace, and he couldn't stop singing the silly version of "Happy Birthday" when he turned 4.

We kind of weaseled out of a party this year. In the morning Mike took him out to a special breakfast and to get a new toy before he headed to work. During the day, he was the king, although that is not too unusual. After work the boys played soccer; then we headed to our house for pizza and cupcakes. Through the eyes of a 4 year old, it was a perfect day.

It's been a big year for Jace--he's grown up so much, and it's been so fun to watch him. He learned to read this year and is now bringing home books from preschool. There is nothing quite like watching the light go on in your child's mind as he connects the sounds of letters and beams as he says the correct word. He has always been eager to learn, curious, busy, and demanding; each is a blessing and a curse, but I love it, because he is mine.

He also learned how to ride a two-wheeler. When he got on a month ago, it took hardly any effort and he just cruised around the park with a grin that was so wide it looked like his face hurt.

He is a great oldest brother and brings such joy and imagination to our family.
