The creeps were back this morning, so I had to go private WAY faster than I wanted to. Thanks to those of you who requested so quickly! So, lots of you were wondering what exactly made me change things. Here is the short of it. Under the stats tab a few weeks ago, I started noticing a site I didn't recognize. I wasn't worried. I clicked on it and it was a link to an Ann Arbor singles site. Kinda weird but not too worried. Then, last Saturday, I noticed an address that had visited my blog 9 times in one morning. From what I understand if it shows up under your "referring links" or "referring URLs" it means that there is a link from that site to yours. When I clicked on the site (which just had a weird address) it sent me to a pornography website. Which means my site was linked from their website. That's why there was such a rush on my part. As soon as I saw that site again on my stats, I decided to go private for good...you never know who is looking at your site...they can come from anywhere really, but you can see how they got to your blog and which which sites have linked to yours if they show up in your stats. Hope that helps.
Now would also be a great time to change our address in your google reader or bloglist so you know when we update!

I'm sorry. That stinks for you! So how did you find them and what did you see that made you notice them? I look at the stats here and there but don't know what I'm looking for to know what to be worried about...or maybe I don't yet have something to be worried about and that's why I'm not seeing it.

I was only public for about 6 months when a good friend pointed out that sometimes it's not so much who visits your site...but like the creeps that were visiting your site, that they will lift pictures of our children and families and put them into their sites in a not very wholesome way. They had read something on it, and it had made their decision, and once I heard what could happen, I didn't want to wait to have creeps find us.
It takes a very sick person to do those kinds of things. But we know those people exist in this world. So, as much as it's hard on all of us in the private world....I know that we wouldn't want to compromise the safety of security of those we love even one little bit.

That makes me ill. I know some people are able to protect their photos so nobody can click and copy the image. Wonder how they do that?
eww. I can't tell you how many times I've heard that SAME story. yuck.
