Book Recommendations

I'm an obsessive reader, so I can't start a book very often or it's ALL I do. But, on the cruise I got to read without guilt. I read three books I loved, so if you are looking for a good read, pick one of these up!

1. Snowflower and the Secret Fan--great, interesting, clean, fascinating. We are reading it for this month's book club, so if you live nearby, pick it up and come on over. I'm planning on making a yummy salad, and we'll discuss.

2. The Samaurai's Garden--Just a beautiful book. Simple story but well written during an interesting time period. Fast, fun read.

3. The Glass Castle--Not for the faint of heart. Half the time I couldn't believe what I was reading was actually a memoir. Incredibly well written and totally sucks you in; incredible story on how the other half lives.

If anyone has other recommendations, please post!

ooh, thank you! Next time I visit the library, I will look for them. I have read a handful of thumbs-down books recently, so I'm in need of some good finds.

Just finished Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I really liked it as well. Have you read any of Lisa See's other books? Wondering if they are as good. Also not for the faint of heart, but incredibly written, eye-opening and unforgettable are the Kite Runner and better yet, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hoseini. Wish I was joining you for your book club and yummy salad.

Thanks, I know what you mean about feeling guilty. I have had Breaking Dawn since it came out & still haven't started it because I wanted to enjoy every second with Josh until school started, well it just started to today so perfect timing to hear about more great reads!

Had to add my recommendations to Mandy's Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Those are 2 of the all-time best books written, in my opinion. The writing is flawless and the story captivating. If you haven't read them, you should!

I just finished a Thousand Splendid Suns--just as good as Kiterunner! I have started Pillars of the Earth and am only 50 pages in and hooked! I'll let you know on that one!

I read the glass castle a couple of years ago and still can't get it out of my mind. It's so hard to believe that people actually live like that and come away so strong. Such a good book!!

I just finished Libba Bray's Great and Terrible Beauty series. There are three books in the series,(that is the name of the first one.) Captivating, I loved them!!

I am a 'classic' girl. Favorites include: Gone with the Wind (you HAVE to read it), Count of Monte Cristo, Anna Karenina, and a difficult to find Captain from Castile (Shellabarger). I LOVE to read too. It is an amazing way to take a journey with your mind. We can thank Mrs. Christensen for some of that... right??? (I think you took AP) Glass Castle is on my 'Autumn' reading list. I just don't read that much in the summer... unless it is easy (Twilight series) and I can pick it up and put it down easily... or I am sick. I save my reading for the LOOONG winters of the Midwest : )
