The kids around here have already been in school for 2 weeks. In a state where summer is so hot, you might as well cut it short and have more breaks during the year. I love it. The kids were all so ready to be back at school. To Jace's dismay, he is not in kindergarten, but he did get to start another year of preschool with Miss Tiffany on Monday. Everyone was excited, except Parks who cried when Jace got out of the car. They are such sweet friends.
The night before school, Mike took the opportunity to give the kids blessings. He is so good at taking advantage of spiritual opportunities. He never thinks children are too young to learn from the spirit. At first, Jace didn't want a blessing. He thought he had to put, "that oil stuff" on your head. Once he understood there would be no oil, he sat reverently on a kitchen chair. Before the blessing, Mike asked him if there was anything he would like to be blessed with. He thought a moment then said, "Um, a new toy tiger and a..." Mike rephrased his question. "Is there anything you want me to bless you with for school this year?" Jace said, "Um, scissors?" Mike proceeded to give him a beautiful blessing and the spirit was so strong in our home. He told him how proud we are of him, blessed him to be kind to those without friends or who are shy, blessed him to love learning, and told him how important he was to his Heavenly Father. Jace has truly started to understand some of the fundamentals of the gospel, and most of that is because of Mike's diligence in teaching it. Mike then gave Parker a blessing, and Parker sat, with eyes closed, arms folded and absolutely still as he told him of our love for him and his Heavenly Father's love for him. I cannot believe he did that at 2 1/2. It's such a testament to what a good example an older brother can be. It was a special night for our family.

I love your family more and more everytime I read your blog! Troy read the blog about Parker saying your a freaky mom and couldn't stop laughing.... so of course Braden thought it was so funny and starting saying "freaky daddy". I am so glad your family could pass that on to ours :) And we are soooo giddy to see you in December!!!! Keep us up to date on your plans. you have a great husband who is full of suprises!
Wish I could have been there! I love you all and miss you everyday! I love what you are teaching the boys!
I love the tradition of blessings before school, but I never thought of giving them to the younger, non-school-age children too. It's such a great idea! Your kids sound darling!
How fun the first day of school!! I loved the part where Parks cried when Jace left. I hope my girls are that close. I too never thought of blessings at a pre-school age. We always reveived them the night before school. What a great example you guys are!
Is summer really over? Oh geez, I barely got to enjoy it.
I'm all excited for our yearly pre-school blessings (it's like this little inside track into your kids...stuff He knows that you don't). Both Ryan and I have been surprised at the things that he feels prompted to say in blessings. I always snag one, too...I need a blessing just to organize all the crazy school schedules!
what a great example you are to your kids and your family. i am starting to wish that time would slow down though because before you know it they'll be leaving on their missions! i wish my kids would stay little forever!xoxo melissa
Jace is so cute on his first day of school. Lizzie is loving going to school with all the boys! Brynn has a super hard time with her going and cries basically the whole time she is gone. You guys are amazing parents!
So cute that they are such good friends. I also love the back to school blessings- I think it's great you are starting so young. I can't believe Parks sat still the whole time! It sounds like Addie needs an older sibling to look up to! :)
Cute cute boys you have! I love the "scissors" comment. . . too funny! Where did the summer go. . . over already? Mya starts her second year of preschool the day after Labor Day and I am kinda dreading it. I'm not ready to get back into a routine.
I love your boys, and their daddy (not in a wierd way). I love that he gave them each a blessing, and Jace is not even in the big K yet. I'm for sure going to have Steve give Max a blessing before his first day next monday. Great idea.
What a neat story!! I agree you are never to young to learn. You have darling little boys!!
I love that! Jace cracks me up! Um scissors! Speaking of scissors, someone asked Ezra who cuts his hair and he said Di, Cheryse, and Jace!
Very special Brooke. Mike is so good like that- what an example. We are always thinking- we'll do these things "soon", but kids are never too young to be taught by the spirit- as you suggest. Thank you!
Happy Birthday! Welcome to year 28. It's been fun for me so far! You better post all about your birthday happenings and what your sweet boys did for you. =)
Happy Birthday Brooke ... a day late! (I always remember because you and Stephanie Hadlock -- my BFF grades 1-3 had the same bday). Hope it was a good day!
Happy Birthday on Sunday! That is so sweet! Josh started Kinder. yesterday and Nolan gave him a blessing Sunday, and right before he left for school he said, "I am really nervous, I could use another blessing."
