Today is Father's Day and we sure are missing our dad. Since we sold our house and had to be out, but couldn't be in Michigan until the end of August, Mike's working away from us this summer and we are playing in Utah with Grandma and Grandpa and that just simply isn't fair. I was emotional as the kids sang father's day songs in church today and he wasn't there. He is the most fantastic father and I couldn't be more grateful for him. Here are just a few little reasons:1. He has his priorities straight...God, family, work, self and he lives his life like this. I couldn't ask for a better example for my kids.
2. He embraces change....he doesn't see starting school and a new career as an unfortunate event. On the contrary he can't wait for what this path will bring us. His enthusiasm and optimism is contagious.
3. He can work...he's never too good for any kind of job and he works hard at everything he does. He's the last one at any event helping the organizers put tables away and mop the floor. I am always so proud to be the wife of a man who helps like that.
4. He's fun, boy is he fun. My life is rich because he is in it. He wants to experience everything and he never misses an opportunity to breathe life in and taste everything it has to offer. He's teaching our boys to do the same. He's the life of the party and makes every situation a bit more exciting and a lot more loud.
5. He's a fantastic friend. I'm amazed at the way he keeps in touch with buddies. He sincerely cares about them and would do anything to help them in their life. In turn, we've received that same kind of friendship.
6. He self evaluates...and then changes. He is not afraid to ask how he can do and be better from me, from the kids from his co-workers. He's extremely humble. When people offer suggestions, he tries to put it into practice immediately. In this case, he really is my hero!
7. He loves his boys. Because he loves them, he teaches them right from wrong whenever he gets the chance. He supports them, listens to them, and takes time for them. He's been their coach and their cheerleader. He reads them books before bed and has important conversations on a regular basis. He's just the best.
7. He loves me, a lot. I've said it before, but his love constantly surprises and amazes me. He protects me and takes care of me. When we were on our 7 day driving journey, he never had me take the wheel. When we checked into our hotels, he carried everything. When we were deciding on a new life direction, he made sure I was okay with our decisions. He respects me and cherishes me and tells me so often, I can't believe I got a man like this. Every experience with him is a pleasure. I'm never nervous about where life takes me, because I am with him. I trust him completely and love him more than words can express.
Babe, I know today won't be the greatest father's day, but I hope you at least know how much we love you! We are the luckiest 4 people in the world because we have you.

Oh, we've been there! For two Father's Days in a row, we were apart from Michel and I felt so bad for him that he had to be alone on Father's Day. Last year we thought it was going to happen again, but we worked it out that he was able to come with us on the family vacation we were going on that week and he just had to bring his stuff with him to study for the bar. So it still wasn't exactly a fun vacation for him, but we at least got to be with him on Father's Day for the first time in 3 years!
Thank you sooo much for the list you sent! It's so great! I love hearing about other people's ideas and methods. I'll let you know of other gems I find.
I'm sorry you are away from Mike. That is hard especially on such a great day to think about such a great guy! But it's nice to know he's doing it for you guys! I miss you...have I mentioned that yet???
Oh, you poor girl! (And I guess poor Mike too! :)) Are you surviving? You are brave souls! I'll agree, Mike is a great guy!
BTW - you didn't miss too much Father's Day stuff here - the dads in our ward were completely forgotten. No candy, no primary kids singing, not even mentioned, nothing. Lame!
Love that picture! the colors are amazing! He is a great guy!
